Re: Senior Football Club Championship 2018

In the first 20 minutes of this match and in patches thereafter, Duhallow looked the better footballing side. DOC was the standout player of the first half. Everything that came his way he used to best effect with a combination of athleticism, skill and intelligence, still showing in his twilight ye...

Re: Cork Footballers 2019

I would have thought the following would be among those in the last chance saloon at the very least: KOD, S. Cronin, B. Hurley, J. O'Rourke, J. Loughrey. Cronin is a fine footballer but doesn't have the physique for this level. The same could be said for O'Rourke. Loughrey is over 30 and dogged by i...

Re: Cork Footballers 2019

I don't buy this shite that "nobody does it like Cork" when players don't live up to their potential. Denis Allen waited 17 years to get his hands on an AI medal and with few other IC medals over those long years. DOC was as game and as dedicated as ever this year with one AI medal in 13 s...

Re: Cork Footballers 2019

McCarthy seems to have gone 180 degrees on the sideline with three coaches now on board, if I am correct: Kirwan, the two Ryans. That could be too many cooks spoiling the broth. He needs to give each proper direction. He also needs to shake up the panel. If, in the New Year, we see any well-tried fa...

Re: Cork Camogie

Congratuations to the Cork ladies, they showed their mettle once again. The referee was extremely poor - to both sides' detriment - awarding frees and a penalty that did not involve fouls being committed.

Re: Other GAA

Like the Roman Empire before it, the GAA is sowing the seeds of its own destruction. This has been the most boring GAA season that I can remember in the 45 years since I became aware of the GAA. Why? The championship didn't extend into the autumn. It almost went like an exercise to be got through as...

Re: Other GAA

In comparison to the team of the 1990s, this is a much less contentious selection, partly because there was a much clearer distinction among the top teams and the top players: https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/hurling-team-of-the-noughties-kilkenny-dominate-but-some-big-names-mis...

Re: Other GAA

On a different hurling issue that came up today: For some reason, a team of the 90s was selected by RTE (team below). It's a bit PC - for example, Michael Coleman was selected as the Galway rep but his heyday was the 1980s. Joe Rabbitte would have been a better selection but I don't think a Galway p...
