Cork Minor Footballers 2018

Postby Lurker » Tue Dec 19, 2017 1:16 pm

Minor Football (U17)

I see they've stuck with the same, much maligned structure for 2018 and the draw has been less than favourable (again) - http://munster.gaa.ie/fixtures/minor/

Sad state of affairs that our best route to the Munster Final/All Ireland quarter final would be to throw the first match against Waterford. After the trouncing Clare got in the Munster Final this year it's hard to fathom that they've stuck with this irrational format. At least Kerry are gone if we do manage to beat them I suppose!

QF 1 Cork v Waterford 11/4 Pairc Ui Rinn @ 7pm
QF 2 Kerry v Tipperary 11/4 Semple Stadium Thurles @7pm
QF 3 Limerick v Clare 11/4 Cusack Park Ennis @6:30pm

Play-Off 1 4 Loser of 2 v Loser of 3 18/4
Play-Off 2 5 Loser of 1 v Winner of 4 25/4

SF 6 Winner of 1 v Winner of 2 9/5
SF 7 Winner of 3 v Winner of 5 9/5

Final 23/6

That's unfortunate now. There doesnt seem to be any development at this age group for our lads over the past few years. Hammer Limerick and co and lose to strong Kerry teams in April, year over. Nobody in their right mind would throw a game against Waterford. Time to beat Kerry in a semi final now

No, of course not. It's beyond belief that they haven't come up with something better at this stage though.

Very unfair why they did not use the round robin format like the Minor hurlers have ..this system is crazy and we have the draw from hell again bt Waterford and down to Tralee to play Kerry in a knockout game .....

Kerry strong favourites.
Cork should throw the Waterford game.
Better to be playing in July at least rather than early May.
Kerry did it

There is an argument for throwing the game. A stupid system system can potentially justify doing stupid things. We won't throw that game though. If we are that afraid of Kerry, then the most suitable course of action would be to give them a walk over. Either that or take them on and try and beat them and knock them out. Could there be anything more pleasant in sport? Remember all those years going to Tralee with the under 21s..even with Jack and Éamon and Dara scowling on the sidelines, we still beat them and it drove the miserable hoors mad. Time to be thankful for the draw and just get going on task at hand.

average from what I hear. Lacking forwards especially a centre forward & full forward. Playing Waterford in 3 weeks and if Cork win then playing Kerry in Tralee mid May . We need a miracle to progress
