Very little interest in this grade of football or so it seems.
On Sunday it was a decent curtain raiser and the Kilnamartery (Kilnamartra) natives were out in force. We will call them KM for now.
Aughabullogue we will rename AB and we are lucky that Newtownmountkennedy or Ballyslubberydashamuchra weren't playing.
2-17 to 1-10 isn't a true reflection of KMs dominance. They led at half time by 0-10 to 1-3 with ABs goal coming against the run of play.
Young Tadg Corkery and the much taller Gearoid Goulding ruled the skies and Corkery in particular was neat and tidy in everything he did.
At half back the ageless Nollaig and his brother Colm O Laoire snuffed out most AB attacks which meant their danger man John Corkery saw
No 5 and captain Graham Vaughan is also a fine footballer and truth be told they are a well balanced team and if they can hold on to their
younger lads especially No 12 Danny O Connell and No 11 Ml Desmond ( 8 pts from frees) they will be a match for any team in the next grade.
The game was played in a sporting fashion like the following senior game and a feature of both matches was the efficiency of the forwards.
KM had only 6 wides and AB 4 while the big boys after them had less Barrs 3 and DH 4.
Incredible that after spending close to €90 million on a new stadium the turf was torn badly after the 1st game and at half time in the senior
game we saw lads out on the field with shovels and pikes replacing sods. It is simply inexcusable and is so embarrassing that it is downright
laughable. Almost as funny (sic) as people step-dancing on a bog to Liam O Connors box music the day it officially opened.
Take a bow, who ever is responsible.
Delighted for Cill Na Martra, they've been knocking on the door of this grade for a number of year. For Noel O'Leary too, I don't think he was making the team last year but in true O'Leary style fought his way back onto the team and now has a county medal in his back pocket.
