Ballincollig beaten by 2 points by neighbours Eire Og yesterday in Coachford.

Strange how Ballincollig has never really progressed from 1967 when they won the Intermediate with a fraction of the population. Those involved with that team would have been raised on tales of the great Ballincollig hurling team of the 40s.

Since the 60s Ballincollig has mushroomed from a small village to one of the largest towns in Ireland but while football has come on in leaps and bounds they've only managed one more intermediate title in 1999. Seems unusual that a place with that kind of tradition would be still be in intermediate with that population.

As far as the championship goes it looks like being Aghada to lose as the standard wasn't great yesterday with a lot of wides but I expect Eire Og to go down fighting at least.
