Kilworth 3-15 Fermoy 1-14.
Kanturk 3-12 Castlelyons 1-13.
Charleville 1-16 Fr O'Neills 2-12.
Blarney 1-11 Watergrasshill 0-9.

I went to the Kilworth game. This would be considered a shock to many. By God, Kilworth were up for this game. They hunted in packs and hurled very well. They were with the wind in the first half and took full advantage going in at half time 2-14 to 0-6. The wind actually strengthened in the 2nd half but Kilworth battened down the hatches and never really looked like losing their lead even if Fermoy came back at them. I thought Noel McNamara corner forward was awesome, scoring 3-3. Nathan Byrne cleaned up at centre back too. Kilworth steam ahead, while Fermoy have to go through the backdoor.

Round 2A (so far)
Ballinhassig/Iniscarra v Valleys/Carrigaline
Blarney v Courceys/Mallow
Charleville v Kanturk
Kilworth v Cloyne/Tracton

Round 2B (lovers - so far)
Ballinhassig/Iniscarra v Valleys/Carrigaline
Watergrasshill v Courceys/Mallow
Fr O'Neills v Castlelyons
Fermoy v Cloyne/Tracton

Mallow 5.18 Blarney 1.21

Mallow down 10-6 when Cormac Murphy goaled. Half time blarney up by a point but Mallow drove on in the second half. Blarney goalie didn't seem to do much wrong for the goals bar one of them, although my sight was partially blocked by floodlights so I could be wrong. For the 3rd goal he made at least two cracking saves beforehand.

Mallow only went in front around midway through second half at about 3.11 to 19 points but the fourth absolutely killed blarney off. Not surprisingly Mark Coleman was excellent as was 15 for Blarney (Mulcahy) when he got ball in. Coleman scored two almighty sidelines, at least one or two from play and a number of frees, and it was he who got the goal with almost the last puck - an unstoppable free beautifully struck into the top corner. That being said, Mallow put Paul Lyons on him when he moved out of the forwards into midfield (Coleman was everywhere in fairness) and I felt that curtailed him somewhat.

I make it that so far:
Winners of the round 1 winners - Mallow, ballinhassig, cloyne. Charleville / Kanturk to come yet, both of who won their first games.

And the below are due to play each other next I think?
Losers of round 1 winners - blarney, carrigaline, kilworth versus winners of the round 1 losers - courcey rovers, valley rovers,fr o'neills, fermoy,

I am very much open to correction on that!

Does anybody know what the hell is going on in these championships? Did the club's really ask for this?
Tracton are in relegation trouble again I think. Did they win any game last year?

I'll tell you what I was told.

After round 1:
Winners play Winners and those that lost play each other on the other side of the draw.
The carrot for those that win 2/2 is to skip on to what I'll call round 4
Those that lose round 1 and win round 2 go into round 3. Likewise, those that win round 1 and lose round 2 also go into round 3. I dunno is round 3 open draw or what.
Lose twice and you're out.
Simple!

I suppose the benefit is that the winners of round 1 get another competitive game. I liked the idea when I heard it but I suppose it evens out anyway, those that keep winning will have to sit out a round eventually while those that lose once might gain momentum.

You may be right about Tracton, I'm not sure.
