Cork U21 hurlers 2017

Postby Big Cut No Bandage » Mon Mar 20, 2017 11:44 pm

Still a good distance between now and our first championship game in this grade. A semi-final away to Waterford on the 13th of July. Can't help but think that U21 is our best chance of success this year. With Collins, Griffin, O Leary, Coleman, Kingston, Fitzgibbon, Cahalane, Meade, O Halloran, O Keefe, Sheehan and O Flynn all on the senior panel along with their manager Meyler as selector we will have a very cohesive and fit group going into the semi.

Who do people think will make up the team? Will it be the 12 Senior panelists with three more or will some of the senior panel end up on the subs?

Who is Sheehan? Browne is also involved with the senior panel, Cahalane and O'Keeffe are overage. Dunno if Lowney is also involved.

Will be interesting to see if all those lads start honestly.

On paper...

P. Collins

C. Walsh S. Bourke D. Griffin

S. O'Donoghue M. Coleman D. Browne

D. Fitzgibbon C. O'Leary

S. Kingston L. Meade D. Meaney

D. Casey M. O'Halloran R. O'Flynn

Will be interesting to see if Meaney and O'Donoghue are involved as they are playing football. A number of players seem to have gone backwards a bit like Lee, Shane O'Brien, Hayes, Keniry etc. Short for corner-forwards.

We probably won't win it but you'd expect a decent performance alright with the people involved. Who else is mentoring? I think the choice of Meyler at senior and u21 was a good idea by the CCB

Fraggy Murphy and Sean O'Brien are with Meyler.

Agree, good idea having Meyler straddling both seniors and U21 but some work load given both roles.

Apparently they've player 3 or 4 challenge games already with mention of another vs Tipp this w/e.

Jack Sheehan for Erins Own, have no idea how old he is. Cahalane with his health problems has missed out on this grade. Browne the only eligible U21 player on the senior panel not to be named on the sub bench so far this year?

Sheehan is maybe 25 at this stage, if not older.

I read that there were 12 U21s on the senior panel so I put 2 +2 together after looking at the subs for the games so far and came up with 5!

So who are the 12 U21s on the panel? Collins, Griffin, O Leary, Coleman, Kingston, Fitzgibbon, Meade, O Halloran, O Flynn, Browne. That's leaves two short.

Eddie Gunning, David Dooling(???), John Cashman, Alan O'CAllaghan, Arron Ward, Eoghan Murphy, James O'Flynn (???) Ciaran Cormac (????), Keniory
Not sure about availability/age of the ????s.
Surely with Meyler involved there will far more priority given to bigger, more athletic players over tippy tappy lads.
