was in Clonmel yesterday for the match. What transpired unfortunately was a microcosm of the issues that Cork GAA teams at all levels suffer at the moment. Middleton had a great start to the second half and got themselves 7 points up and the Thurles midfielder got himself sent off. Thurles then brought their 2 most physical players the full forward and their centre forward out into the middle of the field where they dominated from there until the last 5 minutes. Middleton weren't able to do anything to curb them with an extra man advantage and what did they do with the extra man (who was also their best hurler)? Yep they put him into the fullback line away from all the play.

Thurles then pulled back the 7 point gap and made it a 4 point lead at one stage. In the final 5 minutes then Middleton brought said best hurler back into the middle of the field where he then dominated and allowed Middleton to lay siege until the final whistle but the damage was already done. It's all grand having tidy hurlers but when the going gets tough you need guys who will dig in and mix it with the opposition and that is what was lacking yesterday. Very frustrating.

Thanks for the report Cahir. Cork teams loosing an awful lot of games through lack of intelligence on the sideline.

Sounds like a poor performance on the line

Where do all the Midleton U16 side that narrowly lost the county final go to school if not to the CBS?

Sam Quirke who was in the middle of the field for Midleton was simply outstanding and there is no doubt that shifting him as a sweeper was the losing of the match. Thurles with very limited possession made maximum use of same and the Midleton line were too slow in shifting Quirke back out to where he again dominated. This was one that got away unfortunately.

Not involved in any Cork squad apparently.
