Cork Senior Hurling 2020

Postby Sinbin » Thu Nov 07, 2019 7:05 pm

Anyone close to the action have any update on when the panel for 2020 convenes, and its make up?

I've heard -anecdotally- that training starts this week for an extended panel but my 'anecdoters' can't confirm who's in and who's out.

They're back today I think, we'll get an idea over the next few weeks I suppose. We need to get a defence bigtime

For 2020 season we need to find a solid no. 6 / centre back ( we haven't had one since RCurran ),
I'd be for taking a flyer and try out Bill Cooper there during the league / early season
( I believe he has the nous, the leadership qualities and the experience to pull it off, he's a winner ),
while simultaneously moving Coleman and Fitzgibbon forward as attacking midfielders / half forwards,
these lads are among the best young hurlers in the country, they are free spirits who love to attack.
P.S. I think there's a good chance that BCooper could be our captain in 2020

I'd just say that Mark Coleman does very good covering for the full back line and he's more valuable where he is.

I can understand why Hoggie is captain for 2020. I think the captaincy didn't sit well with Harnedy and IMO he should have been relieved of it after one year. It's a massive order for both player and club. I'd have liked to have seen Bill Cooper been given it. I think he was the captain of his club when they won the Munster Intermediate. All in all I'm pleased with the decision, hopefully with a different management and captain we'll have a good 12 months

Kingston must have amazing contacts. I heard he has Mark Brady as one of his strength and conditioning coaches. Christy O Connor is in the backroom setup too. Another guy is a former fitness guy with Pau and the top fella in UUC is there as well. I was talking to one man who was at the training session earlier today and he told me the best 40 hurlers in the county were there. William Kearney wasn't there and another absentee was John Cronin, they both can count themselves unlucky but I wouldn't say they're out of the picture yet
