You have to laugh at how he plugged for Deegan at the end. I'm amazed he didn't look for Paudie Hughes and Marty Duffy as linesmen.

The reason they don't want Gough or Coldrick has nothing to do with where they live. It's because 1. they will ref it as they see it, 2. they don't show the expected deference to the green & gold (à la Deegan) and 3. they can't be got at mentally. It's exactly why they didn't want Pat Mc Enaney in the 00's.

I agree with that 100%. They will use every trick in the book to gain an advantage.
Next up Michael Healy Rae or even Danny. Great men to pull a stroke

Furious backpedaling, now that they realise they have overstepped and Gough is still likely to be appointed.

Now the speil is that in the event he makes a mistake that costs Dublin 5 in a row, it's out of concern for David Gough's post final welfare that they don't want him reffing the final.

A new low for the yerra media mafia.

The announcement that Gough has got the gig is proof, if proof were needed, that the game has not really changed and that this generation of pups from the paps aren’t as good at it yet as their predecessors.

Instead of swinging a big hammer about wildly, the old heads like the Bomber would have been regaling us all with the story about the night above at the club in Dublin when he was presenting medals for free but they insisted on him having a cup of tea and a sandwich before he hit the road for home. The Dub woman who buttered the brown bread (with British margarine instead of Kerrygold) was morto and had a face redder than JBM’s slapped one after Jimmy Denihan was finished with him that time. David Gough was in the club because it was his Feile team that had won the medals and she told him that she’d made coddle inst as of brown bread sandwiches for him because he was a true Dub. When he told her that he wasn’t and that he didn’t have time for a bowl of coddle anyway because he was still struggling with the sight in the eye that meant he missed the obvious free for Kerry a few years ago she nearly fell out of her LIDL apron that her son gave her for Christmas in January. She told him to cop on with himself and lose the notions because sure everyone knew that he was a direct descendant of Molly Malone.

I’d say Jim Gavin is delighted with how the week has gone so far. Instead of talk of five in a row Kerry have dominated the airwaves with the Gough stuff, effectively implying that the Dubs will need the help of the ref to get over the line. I suspect there won’t be much needed by way of motivational talk in the Dublin dressing room and the focus of it won’t need to be on making history.

All that said, rich as it is for that lot to be getting high and mighty about the time they got on the wrong side of a refs call given some of the dodgy ones they’ve benefitted from over the years, it is a bit mad that they didn’t find someone who was a bit more removed from it all.

Galway win the minor again, hammer Kilkenny. We've a long way to go to match them. 3 in a row

Incidentally, Cork u15s hammered that Galway team 2 years ago in the Carrigdhoun/Ted Hanley tournament (sadly no longer going due to the stupid change in the age groups) in Brinny
