Finally someone has put a figure on it. Most were running for cover.

From Nov 2016

Following a media tour of the stadium yesterday, former Cork County Board chairman Bob Ryan – who is the chairman of the stadium steering committee – revealed that the construction is on budget, estimated to cost just short of €80m.

With grants – from the Government and national and provincial GAA – and the board’s own funds covering about €64m, the sale of 2,000 premium seats at €6,500 each will generate €13m, and naming rights are also on the table.

“We have considered selling the rights,” Ryan said, “we’re exploring that possibility, very much so.

“That’s provided we get the right commercial offer.”

John Mullins, chairman of the stadium business committee, “We hope that the Páirc will begin its life debt-free, and there aren’t many stadiums that you can say that about.”

“People involved in planning the project and seeing it through completely out of their depth.”

“Plenty of room for heads on plates.”

And there are difficulties in persuading people who want to contribute to Cork GAA that the monies they subscribe won’t go into the Pairc Ui Chaoimh black hole, even though they won’t.

Some day someone will write a book about it. That might bring in some money. Or some court cases.

When you see what John Delaney got away with in his time, can you only imagine what these cowboys got away with over decades? I was with a potential sponsor yesterday when the amount was read out and when they heard the figure they were shocked. Doesn't help when you see these lads still sauntering about Blackrock in their suits and obviously still involved.

Without the catharsis of heads on a plate, why would anyone give decent money to our county? There's so many better run and more transparent sporting and charitable causes out there. I feel sorry for Kevin O Donovan and co. having to do their best in the circumstances.
